PhD students: Recruiting for the Fall 2027 intake. Spring 2027 is possible if there is a strong match. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis starting until around March, 2027 for the fall intake or until the positions are filled.
Postdoctoral researchers: Positions are currently filled.
Research interns: Applications are considered year-round; start dates are flexible. Candidates with a strong mathematical or engineering background are encouraged to apply.

Research

Our research aims to build the theoretical foundations and practical systems needed for secure and privacy-preserving distributed computation. We are currently interested in the following topics:

Foundations of secure computation, including new cryptographic primitives, new perspectives on classical primitives, and fundamental lower and upper bounds.
Secure computation for emerging computer systems, including strengthening privacy guarantees and mitigating harmful collective behavior, such as collusion, in agentic AI, blockchains, cloud computing, and other distributed systems.

Who should apply?

We welcome applicants with backgrounds in cryptography, theoretical computer science, security, distributed systems, mathematics, or related areas. Curiosity, motivation, and the potential to engage deeply with challenging research problems are more important than prior experience in a particular area. Applicants whose backgrounds are not listed are still encouraged to apply if their interests or skills connect meaningfully with the group’s research.

PhD students

This opportunity may be a good fit if you enjoy developing rigorous ideas, investigating foundational questions, or connecting theory with problems arising in modern distributed systems.

Eligible applicants may be considered for competitive scholarships. Scholarship eligibility, deadlines, coverage, and selection procedures vary by scheme and may change. Applicants should consult the official pages for current information.

Postdoctoral applications are considered year-round, with flexible start dates. I am especially interested in researchers whose work connects with secure computation, cryptography, privacy, distributed systems, or the emerging applications described above. Researchers bringing complementary technical or theoretical perspectives are also encouraged to apply.

possible topics you would be interested in exploring together; and
your preferred or earliest start date.

Availability depends on current projects, funding, and NTU’s formal appointment procedures.

Eligibility and availability vary by call, and listing a scheme does not imply nomination or guaranteed funding.

Research interns

Research intern applications are considered year-round, with flexible start dates. These positions may be suitable for candidates who would like to gain research experience and contribute to projects in secure computation, cryptography, privacy-enhancing technologies, or distributed systems. Applicants from adjacent technical or mathematical backgrounds are also welcome.

Please indicate your availability and relevant research, technical, or mathematical experience in the expression-of-interest form. Links to publications, theses, project reports, software, or other representative work are welcome but not required.

Research intern appointments and future PhD admission are separate processes. Formal appointments are subject to project availability and NTU’s hiring procedures.
